DEATILS OF AJMU ACTIVITIES

Atghara Jyoti Mohila Udyog (AJMU) is an NGO led by women under society act. It is run to ameliorate the socio economic status of the underprivileged women and their wards. However the organization started it’s operation since 7^th March 1992 under the active leadership of Smt. Nurani Islam who after prolonged struggle against poverty and social barriers, established this organization from the burgeoning state to the position for the betterment and welfare of the downtrodden women of the community. The organization has brought about the proliferation of its activities as mentioned here under :

1. SELF HELP GROUP :

With a view to eradicating poverty and promoting the socio-economic status of the underprivileged women,financial assistance through forming selp helf groups ajmu has taken a boldly step. On 15th February, 2001 it started with two SHGs known as Suryamukhi & Gandharaj. The proliferation of the activities given below in the field of SHG justifies the massive contribution of Smt. Nurani Islam in building up this organization (as per the data on 31^st Jan 2017) :

AJMU disburse loans among these SHG members in small scale for developing their respective income generating activities. The organization also provides trainings on skill development to these group members.

2. CAPACITY BUILD UP :

Smt. Nurani Islam humble begning as a tailoring instructor gradually has not only settled her but also helped her to reap profit by bagging tailoring orders/assignments from different agencies like Khadi Village Industry Corporation (KVIC), local schools for uniform and other significant merchandise. At present 10 tailoring centers are functioning with 80 trainees. Being impressed with the activities of this organization NABARD (National Bank For Agriculture & Rural Development) came forward to sponsord the training projects twicely on tailoring trade (Basic) and skill development initiative SDI (Tailoring Advanced). The renowed organization SIDBI also sponsorded the training project on tailoring trade (Basic). More than 5000 trainees have successfully completed their courses and are engaged in various income generating ventures. AJMU has introduced its own production house were round the clock processing arrangements for manufacturimg various garments are carried out. AJMU has opened two ware houses at Atghara,Purbapara and Raigachi Sesh more, where the products of the SHG’s are being sold. Products were also sent out side state for sale such as Gaganendra Pradarshani, Milan Mela at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Vidyasagar Mela at Salt Lake, Netaji Sanga Shyama Puja Prangan, Vastsalya Mela at New Delhi etc.It is pleasure to express that AJMU has started on line marketing through RMK,DELHI, ( http://mahilaehaat-rmk.gov.in ) sponsord by-Ministry of Women & Child Development,Govt. Of India.

3. PRODUCTION RESOURCE CENTER :

system between theoretical and practical training for our carrier aspiring participants and needy personals after completing their theoretical training at our classroom / training centers. After successful completion of their training they are being nurtured through practical experience as one step ahead of job opportunities for carrier prospects and thereby we will evaluate PRC as our Data Bank.

Our Ongoing Project

Project Description:

” Motherhood is the Happiest as well as the toughest part of life”

We would like to draw your kind attention that we, Atghara Jyoti Mahila Udyog (AJMU), New Town based NGO (Reg No.SO134684 OF 2005 -2006 under W.B SOCIETY ACT XXVI OF 1961), establish in 1992 for the cause of underprivileged women across the society. At present we are working in 75 villages, under 4 blocks and 3 districts (mainly in North Kolkata) for development of social up-liftmen and empowerment of women belonging to underprivileged in particular with our team work of 1324 Self Help Groups (SHGs) comprising of approximately 14 thousand plus female members. We are basically involved in an integrated community development project by using community resources. By the process of our progress since 1996 we have trained more than 9000 no of beneficiaries (Data available in our books of record) in various fields like financial literacy, garment manufacturing, nursing, beautician, housekeeping, soft skill etc. for strengthening their footings stable and managing themselves independently.

Further, we would like to mention that due to COVID 19 our SHG members are living in a difficult and vulnerable life. Hence, to address their problems, we have taken up very novel initiatives by arranging different awareness camps/events among them. We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully completed a month-long awareness program followed by a one-day event on Pregnant and Post Pregnant Mother w.r.t. COVID 19 held on 19^th December 2020 at our Head Office premises and the program was covered by eminent media house.

In the same program, we have distributed health-nutrition kits, recommended by the World Health Organization to 30 mothers.

Our next awareness camp/program shall be organized on Valentine Day, February 14, 2021 and International Women’s day, March 8, 2021. We shall organize an awareness program for one month (15.01.2021 – 13.02.2021) among our 16000 + Self Help Group Members on the following topics:-

Save Blood For You: We will aware our SHG members the importance of Blood donation and will motivate them to donate blood atleast 2 times in a year; Resulting a Blood Bank for them in the hours of need.
Purification of Blood: We shall campaign on HIV and other dreaded diseases.
Insomnia of Blood: We will address on menstrual insomnia & its remedies.

Our confirmed 150SHG members shall donate blood on Valentine Day and on 8^th March 2021 on the occasion of International Women’s Day we shall facilitate 10 nos of Newtown based women personalities considering their achievements and success in their respective field such as Education/Health/Media/Sports/Corporate/Social/Political/Film/Business and Religion. We will further facilitate 80no’s of SHG members, who shall actively participate in the above mentioned event as a part of their LEADERSHIP PROGRAM.

Now, we would like to appeal for joining with our initiatives as a partner of our progress. We believe your brand value along with enriched experience would definitely strengthen our activities in the right direction.

We are very glad to inform you that during this pandemic situation AJMU is dedicating to nurture 16000 underprivileged women among the Self Help Group members, who are on the door step to be a mother for the first time, regarding caring of babies and mothers with respect to covid-19 in the areas of-
1. Health and Hygiene
2. Food & Nutrition
3. Lifestyle
4. Dress Code
As per WHO ( World Health Organization) recommendation followed by delivering gifts to prospective mothers.

During the campaigning program we shall choose 30 poor underprivileged pregnant and post pregnant women. In the month of December 2020 we shall be organizing a seminar with the above women where eminent Gynecologist’s and Pediatricians shall be present. We are glad to inform you that we shall be offering them a heath kit under WHO recommendation.
For this month long campaign among 75 villages adjoining Newtown, Kolkata the total cost of the project is rupees 80,000/- (eighty thousand).

We earnestly request to all of our well wishers of AJMU to contribute financially, that cash or kind to successfully complete the above project for the poor underprivileged pregnant and post pregnant women.
